""New Releases""

„Хотел Морал“ е история базирана на истински събития и хора, но дотолкова, доколкото касае работата ми като главен редактор на списание в чужбина, която продължи около една година.

Manga – Pictures That Literally Draw Interest
Books that Burn Bright
"Maybe the books can get us half out of the cave"
A year ago, I translated a book about the Calash People. The Calashum inhabit the high mountain area in the Chitral region of Pakistan. Thanks to the altitude and the challenge to get there, these people have survived the changes of time and their lives are pretty much the same as they were several hundred years ago and even more...
These past few months have been tough – a euphemism at its best. At one point, I realized the horrifying validity of Trent Reznor’s words – every day is exactly the same – and found myself agreeing with a friend on how it felt as if we were in Groundhog Day.With every day being a monotonous string of events, two things made each week a little brighter...
The Boom of Erotic Literature
Looking for the Fairy Tale
When writing about the boom of erotic novels I will be a bit biased and still it will be accurate from literally perspective. As a translator, I have translated over 30 erotic novels (most of them consisting of 3 to 5 volumes), so imagine the amount of work. Starting with “50 Shades of Gray”, I was astounded at the popularity the book ...

Books & Releases
David Sedaris is one of the most remarkable writers of our time. His novels rank among the top 20 funniest books of all time. I came upon him quite accidently – during an argument about funny books. I was like “Who is this? Why have I not heard about him?” Despite being a passionate reader, he had escaped my attention.
The next day, I went and bought “Me Talk Pretty One Day” and while travelling on the metro, I started reading. I was in stiches, my face hurt after so much laughing.

The next day, I went and bought everything he had written so far.
No one in Bulgaria had heard about him. The publishing houses ignored my plea to have him translated. The argument? “But we sell what is already known to the people. So, no.”
I think, after 78 translated books for publishers in Bulgaria, I was fed up with translating stuff I don’t like, but which is offered only for the sake of the quick revenue. That is why Peppermill Books was founded.
Two years ago he came to Vienna to do a reading of his latest book “Calypso”. I bought a ticket and I was so excited. He came earlier. I had never imagined that this smiling, gentle man was capable of so much sarcasm, self-irony.
He was so cordial and open, so genuine with us. After all, at the beginning of his career as a writer, he used to sit in a corner of a supermarket and sell his books, giving away small presents with each one – a condom. Some people failed to see the funny side. Their loss.
When my turn for an autograph came, I told him that I was his translator for Bulgaria and we talked a lot. He was so happy and honoured. And I got this great autograph saying it was an honour for him to be translated by me. One of my proudest moments as a translator.
I hope I have brought some joy to the Bulgarian readers. Besides, I had so much fun pottering through Sedaris’s sense of humour – not sugarcoating anything and not afraid to share his life stories, bringing forward the funny side. Yet, at times, the pain of a person who has been through so many struggles, comes up almost close to the surface and his works leave that bitter-sweet feeling, which stays with you while you are cracking up with laughter.
For more information on Sedaris, you can always google the countless resources in internet.
